HiLL combines a meticulous, syllable-packed flow and hair-splitting punchlines similar to Eminem and Big L with the honesty and story telling ability of Brother Ali or Talib Kweli. He delivers his vocals uniquely on each track ranging from cocky and laid back, to urgent and anger-filled.
In his debut mixtape, The Platinum Era (2013), produced by DJ Turnz, Habits shows off his clever punchlines, technically sound flow and brash delivery while describing his role as the self-proclaimed pioneer of Hip Hop’s Platinum Era.
You can immediately tell that HiLL is having fun behind the mic as he delivers a collection of sample laced tracks complimented by unforgettable choruses charged with loose grooves and focused lyrical drive. Throughout, HiLL tells the story of a kid from the endless suburbs of Long Island studying Hip Hop instead of homework. If you’ve ever lugged a backpack full of beer around your hometown, rolled blunts on CD cases, or spilled days worth of blood, sweat and tears on a basketball court, HiLL’s story will render a vivid image.
He paints a clear picture of where he's been as well as where he is heading, as he outlines his plans to make Hip Hop history while dropping a slew of metaphors and intricate flows through the project.
In an era of repetitive beats and dumbed down lyrics dominating the airwaves, HiLL shows that he’s prepared to act as Hip Hop’s iron lung. Hip Hop purists and new-breed lovers alike can rejoice as HiLL Habits breaks from the pack and ushers the genre into its platinum era.
In his latest project, "Supernaturally Organic" (2016), a collaborative project with childhood friend PineZALL under their PineHiLLz moniker, HiLL swerves into a different lane and takes a satirical approach to address some controversial subjects in their sometimes cinematic, often comedic and always entertaining full length album that keeps listeners guessing from track to track, and sometimes guessing even in the middle of tracks. HiLL Habits was born and raised in Long Island, NY, and currently resides in the Bronx Borough of NYC. HiLL spent his early years as a hoops and Hip Hop addict, perfecting his craft on the court while tuning his ear to a wide variety of artists and producers, resulting in his desire to create his own records along with his like-minded friends.
HiLL started out passing out CDs to classmates in the halls of his high school and performing talent shows, then moving on to rapping at parties and bars in his college town of Binghamton, all resulting in growing respect for his craft by his peers.
HiLL, like many other young adults, struggled with idea of choosing a life long career path during years when he was still finding out who he truly was as a person, which became a theme in his music. While he deliberated over his future, his passion for music, entertainment and creativity never wavered, and he continues to harness his craft while exploring personal growth and creative progress as an artist and as an individual .
In July 2012, he competed at the Get Your Buzz Up Hip Hop industry showcase at Webster Hall in New York City, and was named the 3rd place winner by a panel of judges consisting of platinum-selling producer Jimi Kendrix, and other major label executives and industry insiders. Here, as well as other venues in NYC and Long Island, Habits began to build a buzz, which was followed by the release of his debut mixtape, "The Platinum Era".
“They say they wanna bring it back to the Golden Era, but this is HiLL Habits/ I’m always moving forward like Nas said it on Stillmatic./ Sicker than sick but I’m still at it/ I’m hip to this shit/ But stick to the script like a pill addict"
